Beijing primary and secondary schools launched the citywide Class Super League in spring 2026 with plans for 400,000 matches to tie sports directly into the school day.
The timing matters because national rules now require at least two hours of daily physical activity for students, and city education offices are using the league to meet that target without adding extra after-school burdens. Organisers expect the bulk of remaining fixtures to run through the summer term and into early autumn, giving teams a clear path to end-of-season standings.
Tournament records set early in the year
The January 2026 Youth Martial Arts Tournament in Xicheng and Mentougou districts drew nearly 1,300 young athletes from 87 organisations across 138 subcategories, the highest entry the event has recorded. That turnout showed how quickly district-level events can scale when schools feed participants straight into the calendar. The same districts now feed winners into the Class Super League brackets, creating a direct route from local competition to city finals.
On May 30 the 2026 Happy Run International Youth and Family Sports Carnival brought more than 500 runners from 31 diplomatic missions and local families to the same promotion effort. Organisers counted the event as one of the first large-scale tests of the new activity targets outside school grounds.
Winter camp adds Olympic pathway
Beijing is also running a winter sports training camp for 120 students aged 10 to 14 that features figure skating and skiing as part of the 14th Beijing Olympic Sports Culture Festival. The camp sits inside the same youth development push and gives selected athletes a second route toward higher-level competition while the Class Super League handles the team-sport side. Schools report that 99.7 percent already staged at least one round of fixtures in early 2025, so the infrastructure for tracking results across hundreds of thousands of matches is already in place.
City sports offices have not released a final date for league playoffs, but the schedule of more than 400,000 matches leaves little room for delays. Parents and coaches can check school notice boards and the Beijing education portal for updated fixture lists as the remaining rounds are confirmed.
